In the Issyk-Kul region, there are 115 wastewater treatment facilities, including 98 in resort and health institutions, of which 29 have not been operational since 2008. The treatment facilities in the resort area of Issyk-Kul, Karakol, Cholpon-Ata, and Balykchy are morally and physically outdated and require urgent reconstruction.
Every year, the number of new health institutions, organizations, cafes, and private hotels connected to the city's sewage network increases, leading to additional pressure on centralized treatment systems.

As a result of the dismantling and disassembly of equipment, 5 treatment facilities in the sanatoriums "Blue Issyk-Kul," "Baisooryn," "Sunny Coast," the "Kyrchin" tourist base, and the fish factory in the village of Grigorievka are non-functional and in an emergency state.

Unreliable recreational facilities are not equipped with sewage and wastewater treatment systems; they only have primitive septic tanks and cesspools. The ecosystem of Lake Issyk-Kul is disrupted by a significant and constant increase in the volumes of domestic and industrial wastewater, the majority of which, without treatment, enters the lake and disturbs the millennia-old balance.
Currently, an unfavorable ecological situation is developing in Issyk-Kul, which has already led to a decrease in the recreational value of the lake complex, and if existing negative trends continue, it may lead to irreversible ecological and economic losses.
