Chuya Forestry. Mass Clear-Cutting of Forest Plantations
In the territory of the Chui Forestry Enterprise in the Chui District (Nizhnyaya Lugovaya Street, Tokmak, territory of the Chui Forestry Enterprise), there are mass clearings of forest plantations on leased plots, and economic activities are being conducted in areas where the forest has been destroyed. Industrial-scale excavations for fish farming are being carried out, and the groundwater flow is being altered, leading to further marshland formation, while the drainage of water from the flooded areas is being disrupted. The floodplain forest is being massively destroyed. It is noteworthy that in the Chui region, the processes of flooding are most pronounced compared to other regions of the republic. Areas with groundwater depths of less than 3 meters cover a sublatitudinally elongated zone north of the Bolshoy Chui Canal and the Chaldybar-Tokmak highway, where many settlements and agricultural lands are located under unfavorable conditions.
In many places on the lands of the Chui Forestry Enterprise, spontaneous dumps of household waste have been observed, often accompanied by frequent fires and self-ignition.
The Chui Forestry Enterprise includes four forestry management units, including the city of Tokmak. These are branches in the villages of Ak-Beshim, Shamshy, and Kegety.
