In the Kadamjay District of the Batken Region, a poachers' camp has been discovered.
On February 6, 2022, employees of ecomap.kg and inspectors from the Osh and Jalalabad environmental management departments, based on information from local activists, discovered a poacher camp at the confluence of the Isfayramsay and Tegirmench rivers in the Kadamjai district of the Batken region. For decades, there has been mass shooting and illegal hunting of ibex by poachers from the Kadamjai district of the Batken region, the Chon-Alai district of the Osh region, Nookat, and the Aravan district.
At the poacher camp, derivatives of illegally hunted ibex were found. According to activists, over a short period, more than twenty skins of Siberian ibex were discovered in this area. Some of them were apparently being burned by the poachers on tires they brought with them to hide the evidence.
According to information, all hunting activities for ibex are regulated by law and monitored by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision. According to the government decree of the Kyrgyz Republic dated August 18, 2017, as well as the provisions of the Code on Violations and Offenses that came into effect on January 1, 2019. Although the ibex is not listed in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan, its illegal hunting is punishable by a fine of 100,000 soms, according to the cabinet's decree. The fine is imposed regardless of the age of the animal. Quotas are issued by a special commission, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources, non-governmental organizations, a representative from the Academy of Sciences, and the hunting association.
Furthermore, in accordance with Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, illegal hunting causing significant damage is punishable by a fine ranging from 500 to 700 calculated indicators, or corrective labor for up to two years, or imprisonment for a term of two to five years.
