In the city of Kainy, Chuy region, a plant for the production and processing of basic metals and finished metal products has been built. According to information, the total investment in production amounted to 50 million dollars. The plant has a full production cycle and will produce a wide range of rolled metal products: all types of rebar and section steel. The planned annual production volume is over 200 thousand tons of rolled steel products.
The staff of the plant consists of about 500 people, more than 200 of whom are residents of the city of Kainy and nearby settlements.
The residents of Kainy are dissatisfied with the operation of the plant; according to them, the plant is currently producing rebar and other rolled metal products. "Every day, columns of black smoke are coming from the plant. We and our children breathe this in; it's simply unbearable. I wonder if they at least pay any money to the budget of Kyrgyzstan for this? Maybe our government even subsidizes them? It feels like they just want to poison us. We can't even open the windows at night," they report.
According to international statistics, the metallurgical industry ranks second among all other industries in terms of atmospheric emissions. Air pollution is the main cause of environmental problems arising from the activities of metallurgical plants. Emissions from chimneys lead to soil contamination, destruction of vegetation, and the formation of technogenic wastelands around large plants.
